Leading by Example in Volunteer Service to Help Those in Need
Patricia Ruze, M.D.
Dr. Patricia Ruze is an Internal Medicine Specialist with expertise in and a passion for Global Medicine.
She is an Assistant Professor of Community and Family Medicine at University of Massachusetts Medical School and recipient of numerous teaching awards. Her travels to Barahona and Haiti following the 2010 earthquake with RN Nancy Todd, RN Sarah Maria, and Traci Todd were the catalyst for At Home and Afar. Dr.Ruze has practiced medicine in the Federated States of Micronesia through work with the Pacific Basin Medical Officers Training Program, in Kenya and multiple other countries in Africa with the US Peace Corps, and treating critically ill Eloba victims in the Ebola Treament Units (ETUs) of Sierra Leaone West Africa. She welcomes health profession students and others with a love of learning to join our efforts in our partner's clinic which we operate in Barahona.
Nancy Todd, R.N.
Nancy Todd is an established medical professional with over twenty-five years experience, and long-term dedication to serving the poor. She is currently employed as a Registered Nurse by a private Correctional Health provider and was recently employed by a division of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. She has worked in hospitals, visiting nurse, and other healthcare environments. Ms. Todd is a Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Massachusetts. She is a graduate of the Newton Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing with a degree in nursing. Ms. Todd has a history of leadership, passion for volunteer work, commitment, and dedication. In leadership roles, she has supported and volunteered for medical and humanitarian efforts to respond to victims of the Haiti earthquake, treating critically ill Eloba victims in the Ebola Treament Units (ETUs) ofSierra Leaone West Africa, and has lead multiple missions to poor areas of the Dominican Republic. She has also volunteered and supported charitable efforts of her church and community.
Joanne McLaughlin, Philanthropist
Jo Anne McLaughlin is a business professional and charitable supporter with extensive experience and focus on philanthropy and helping people in need. Ms. McLaughlin applies her education and work expertise to the administration and financial operations of a nationwide insurance business. Ms. McLaughlin has a long history of leadership, passion for volunteer work, commitment, and dedication. In At Home and Afar's leadership roles she has been in the forefront of philanthropy, fresh water projects, and has volunteered to lead medical and humanitarian efforts during many missions to poor areas of the Dominican Republic. She also volunteers and supports charitable efforts in her community.
